Goslin School

Information from Orpha Turner Brothers (via his granddaughter, DeAntha Wright - thanks sooo much)

One Putnam County Shrine of learning was situated on the banks of Ramp Creek, about a mile SW Of Fincastle. It was known as the "Goslin School House."  In the year 1827, James and Mary Goslin came from their home in Winston-Salem North Carolina with all their worldly possessions in a covered wagon. Mary on horseback with a small child in her lap.  They cleared the land and built a log house for a home. As the year went by, they sensed the need of a school in their vicinity; they gave a spot of their land for the location of a building.  Hence the name, "Goslin School."  The building has now been moved to the village of Fincastle and used for a residence. Whether it is the original building, no one is left to tell us.
